ProjectsGrades 3-5: Reading, Writing, Research
Objective: The students will choose 1 of 4 controversial topics that are currently being faced by the students on a daily basis. The 4 topics are as follows: ~ Topic 1: Does Technology make us more alone? ~ Topic 2: How should parents handle a bad report card? ~ Topic 3: Do kids need recess? ~ Topic 4: Does separating boys and girls help students perform better in school? Activity: The task is to pick one of the topics provided and defend their opinion, whether they are for or against the topic chosen, and provide supporting details that defend their opinion. The students will write a 5 paragraph essay on their topic of choice, along with a minimum of 2 resources- google scholars, internet, journal, article, book- to support their opinion. NOTE: YOU MAY NOT USE WIKIPEDIA OR THE REGULAR GOOGLE WEBSITE. **@@** The other option that the students have is to create their own project, based on their personal goals and objectives Grades 3-8: Math Objective: The students will create an animated cartoon video or live person video that teaches other (non-gifted) students how to solve mathematical problems, based on the mathematical concepts/equations they are currently working on in their math classes. Ex: They could teach the pythagorean theorem, geometrical shapes, square roots, algebra, etc. Activity: The students will watch the short-film, Donald in Mathmagic Land, with the purpose of providing them with a visual example of how to teach math through the use of fun videos/movies. This activity gives them the ability of grasping the attention of their audience through the use of fun and/or funny visuals that other children their age enjoy. The students will then work in pairs to decide upon which mathematical theory they would like to teach through the use of cartoons and/or live video. Grades 6-8: Reading, Writing, Research Objective: The students will choose 1 of 4 controversial topics that are currently being faced by the Presidential front-runners of both the Republican and Democratic parties. The 4 Topics are as follows: -Topic 1: The National Debt: How To Address It. -Topic 2: Healthcare Reform: To Repeal or Not To Repeal. -Topic 3: Environment: Gas Price vs. Global Warming -Topic 4: Education Reform Activity: The task is to pick either the Republican or Democratic side's stance on the topic of choice, research by using a minimum of 3 resources- (Google Scholars, Journal, Article, Book)- and supporting your topic with details from the resources. The paper is to be a minimum of 3 pages, typed, double-spaced. NOTE: YOU MAY NOT USE WIKIPEDIA OR THE REGULAR GOOGLE WEBSITE. **@@** The other option the students have is to pair up with a partner, pick the goal in reading and/or math that they would like to focus on for this project, and research/brainstorm ideas on a project that they would like to work on. The students will then write a proposal with the project they are interested in doing, the details about the project, which goal they would be working on, what would they learn from completing this project. Once I read over the proposal for each partner, I will then approve or disapprove their project of choice. If a disapproval is received, they must either correct what is missing from their idea and/or find another option to base their project on. |
