Hello Parents and Students!
Welcome back to a new and exciting school year at Franklin Academy- Cooper
City! I am very honored to have the privilege of having you in my class.
This 2016-2017 School Year will bring many exciting, fun, and educational
projects and activities for our Gifted students that will assist them in
achieving progress in their education.
Gifted is about challenging students in the classroom through the use of
enrichment projects and activities to enable them to make continuous
progress in school.
At Franklin Academy Cooper City we use the pull-out program, which
provides the students the ability to work with other students of the same
ability and grade level on specific enrichment projects and activities
provided for them by their gifted teacher.
Our Gifted Students made great progress throughout the 2015-2016 school
year in which they created a toothpick bridge project where they had to
research the six different types of bridges, research bridges from around
the world, and then plan and draw out a blue print that details every
aspect of what their toothpick bridge will look like. When their bridge
is complete and dry, it was to hold the weight of Mr. Piper, our school
Principal.
Our 8th Grade Group created a documentary on feminism. They interviewed
teachers and students on what they each knew feminism to mean. The
outcome was amazing as they truly gave an detailed depiction of the
unbelievable difference amongst teachers and students with regard to what
feminism was and the ways in which they had experienced this issue in
their lives.
Those are just a couple of examples of the types of projects created
during our Gifted Pull-out Sessions. I look forward to many more
wonderful experiences this new school year.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about
myself. I am a loving, supportive, positive and enthusiastic teacher of 10 years.
I come from a VERY large Cuban family- kind of like the family in the
movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I have spent my entire life surrounded by
children, and I have always loved that, which is one of the main reasons
that I became a teacher. I believe that children are our greatest
gift, and we must make sure to support them and give them the best
opportunity to succeed now and in the future. I, myself, am a mother of a
little boy named Dylan whom I am absolutely in love with! He makes my
life so happy as I am sure yours do for you. I am here to love them,
support them, and guide them as their teacher and designated mom while
they are in school.
I have a Bachelor's Degree from St. Thomas University in Business
Management, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and am currently in
the process of completing my Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership,
as my greatest hope for the future is to become Principal at a school.
My favorite place in the entire world is DISNEY!! My son and I spend two
weeks there every Summer and could NEVER get enough Disney. We had the
opportunity to travel on the Disney Cruise Line ship- Fantasy- three
Summers ago and can not tell you enough just what an amazing and magical
trip that was. We can't wait to go on it again. We enjoy traveling. I
believe that this is one of the greatest forms of education that a child
can receive.
Dylan and I also love to go shopping at the Disney Store and Target- and a
few other girly stores that Dylan isn't too happy about. I am a girly
girl!
I love Turquoise and Fuschia, and anything that sparkles, which explains
the colors of my classroom decorations.
We love the beach and Summer! We love to read books about
mystery, adventure, true stories, and fiction. Basically, we are just
fun, adventurous, Disney-loving, beach-loving people who love to enjoy
life.
I am super happy and excited to have all of my babies again this year, and
to set sail on a new school year filled with lots of fun learning
experiences.
Gratefully Yours,
